Trauma Healing Program – Yaoundé Session Report

Sustaining Peace Foundation (SPF) successfully hosted a two-day trauma healing program in Yaoundé, aimed at supporting emotional recovery and resilience for individuals affected by conflict, loss, and personal trauma. The session was facilitated by Dr. Lane, alongside SPF’s legal advisor and trauma healing specialist, whose presence offered both professional insight and emotional support throughout the process.

Day 1: Understanding Wounds of the Heart

The first day of the program focused on introducing participants to the nature of emotional trauma, differentiating physical wounds from wounds of the heart, while drawing insightful parallels between the two. Dr. Lane’s empathetic and engaging approach created a strong foundation for emotional awareness and safe self-expression.

The session transitioned from theory into interactive, practical healing exercises, where participants openly shared personal stories of pain and loss. Through guided listening and peer support, a safe and supportive environment emerged, allowing many to feel seen, heard, and valued for the first time.

Day 2: Navigating Grief and Healing

The second day of the program centered around the grieving process, helping participants recognize, name, and validate their feelings of sorrow, anger, and confusion. Through storytelling, reflective activities, and group dialogue, attendees were guided through the stages of grief, with tools for healthy expression and coping.

Many participants expressed a sense of release and clarity, as they were given both language and space to process emotions they had long suppressed. The session concluded with practical steps for continued healing, as well as encouragement to build community support beyond the program.
